NASA is planning for a late-night test launch of its massive lunar spacecraft without astronauts after a delay of roughly two and a half months.

Early on Wednesday, NASA will attempt to launch its mission to send astronauts back to the moon for the third time.

Technical issues prevented the launch of the Artemis I mission in August or September.

The Space Launch System rocket and the Orion capsule won't have any people inside if the mission lifts off on Wednesday.

A successful mission might pave the way for one in which men are first sent into lunar orbit and then subsequently to the moon's surface.

It will launch at 1:04 in the morning. East Coast time.

The liftoff can be delayed by up to two hours, until 3:04 a.m., in the event of bad weather or repetition of technical difficulties.
